Hello, hello!
It has been quite a minute since I have posted a blog. I wanted to come on here and share a little bit about what my life looks like currently. I am now living in Branson, Missouri attending the Kanakuk Institute, an eight month discipleship program where I get to study the Bible! How fun!
One of my favorite things that I have been learning about so far is hermeneutics – or simply the interpretation of the Bible. The Inductive Bible Study method has been so helpful to me in learning how to better study and interpret the Bible. There are three steps to inductive study: observation, interpretation, and application.
Observation
- What does the text say?
- Who, what, when, where, why, and how questions can be helpful in determining what the passage is saying.
- Look for repeated key words, phrases, or ideas. Why are they repeated?
- Read the passage multiple times so that you don’t miss anything!
Interpretation
- What does the text mean?
- What is the context? Context is so important and can change our understanding of a passage.
- Cross-references can also be used for clarity and to help understand the whole story of scripture
Application
- Can I apply the text to my life?
- Two good questions to ask are:
- What does this text say that I should believe?
- How does this text say that I should behave?
My son, if you receive my words and treasure up my commandments with you, making your ear attentive to wisdom and inclining your heart to understanding; yes, if you call out for insight and raise your voice for understanding, if you seek it like silver and search for it as for hidden treasures, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God. Proverbs 2:1-5
Thanks for letting me share a little bit about what I am learning in school! If you have any questions, I would love to talk more about this! Also, if you have something you would like prayer for, I would love to do that as well! I’ll put my email and phone number below.
Blessings,
